From 1949 to 1983 there was a unique Yugoslav Society for Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering (YSSMFE) with members from all of the six former Yugoslav Republics: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. From 1983 to 1990 geotechnical societies were also active at the level of the former Yugoslav Republics. These were members of the YSSMFE, which was a member of the ISSMGE as a unique Member Society.
After the dissolution of former Yugoslavia, in 1998 the MAG was established as country association, while already in 2001, MAG has become a member of the ISSMGE. Ever since then, MAG has been very active as it has organized National Conferences in 2002, 2006, 2010 and 2014, where the last one with an International Scientific Committee. Meanwhile, in 2008 there has been organized an International Seminar supported by ISSMGE, while frequently MAG co-organizes one-day seminars in cooperation with CCACERM and EIM.
The young engineers are very important element of MAG: they actively participate at the MAG’s events and are also supported to attend the international ones. It is expected that they will continue their professional update at the XVI DECGE.
